Retired Circuit Judge Hubert L. Grimes proudly endorses Steve, citing his proven leadership, commitment to neighborhood improvement, fiscal responsibility, and a long history of bringing people together to solve problems. This endorsement reflects a legacy of trusted service and a vision for a stronger Daytona Beach.
Steven W. Miller is a dear friend of mine who has contributed to the Daytona Beach community for over 40 years in various capacities. He volunteered and served as my Campaign Manager in my successful run for Volusia County Court Judge in 1988. In an effort to bring our community together, he served with the Mission United organization to celebrate Juneteenth in 1987-88. From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Miller served as a Daytona Beach City Commissioner, where he led the successful effort to permit Home Based Businesses throughout the Daytona Beach area. With the blessing of former BCC president, Dr. Oswald Bronson, he successfully pushed for the renaming of Second Avenue to Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard, in honor of the founder of Bethune Cookman University. Following his departure from the Commission, he continued his efforts on behalf of our young people and persuaded the Commission to establish the Recreation Board focusing on programs for area youth. He has helped other individuals to be successfully elected, including three former and current members of the Commission. For the last four years he has led the Midtown Neighborhood Watch Association, bringing people together with city officials who can help solve their problems. He will bring a “can do” leadership attitude to the Commission with an emphasis on cooperation, progress and problem solving. His fiscal experience operating a tax and accounting firm for over forty years will also bode well in helping to keep our city on track and within budget.
